10 ESSENTIAL KITCHEN TOOLS

TGIF. Still on topic of the month - THE KITCHEN, final episode. 
A well equipped kitchen is the dream of every woman but most times it doesn't turn out so for some people. That isn't a big deal, so long as your kitchen possess the essential tools that will enable you run your kitchen
activities smoothly. 

Not every kitchen tool are been used on a daily basis, there are some we can do without and there are other others we cannot do without. The top 10 that am going to talk about are the ones we can hardly do without. 

COOKERS 
It is used to cook our meals. It can be gas, electric, stove, charcoal or firewood cooker. If you want to purchase a gas cooker, I will advise you purchase the one that is a combination of gas and electric so you can save your gas when the electricity voltage is high. But no matter the cooker type you are using, please ensure you have a stove with kerosene standby because it will save you when your gas gets exhausted, also when your firewood or charcoal gets wet accidentally or when electricity goes off. 

POTS AND PANS 
They are used for cooking and it comes in different sizes for different 
purpose.When shopping for pots and pans, go for the heavier ones because the lighter ones heats fast but they burn food easily.


CUTLERIES
This is a collection of utensils used for serving and eating food. The include spoons, forks and knives. 




COOKING SPOONS AND SHARP KNIVES 
Cooking spoons are used for stirring and dishing out our food while knives are used in performing all cutting task in the kitchen. It must be sharp and while using it carefulness should be applied to avoid knife cuts. A blunt knife makes cutting boring. 

CHOPPING BOARD
It is used for chopping vegetables, cutting meats and fishes. It goes well with a sharp knife and takes away knife marks from your palms and kitchen cabinets/counters/cupboards.

HAND TOWEL
Hand towel covers all kind of towel used in the kitchen. It is used to clean your hands and cooking areas while preparing a dish. There should be a hand towel for every cleaning in the kitchen (such as cleaning of sinks, plates after washing) and it should be kept where it can be easily reached.

GRATER AND PEELER 
Grater is a wonderful multipurpose kitchen tool. It has different hole sizes. The small holes are used for grating nutmeg, garlic, ginger and water yam. Other holes is used for grating vegetables for salad and coconut for coconut rice. While peeler is used for peeling Irish potatoes, cucumber, scraping of carrots etc. 

CAN OPENER AND KITCHEN SCISSORS 
Instead of opening cans with knife get a can opener which is safer, easier and faster. Advanced can be used in opening wine and other bottle drinks.
A kitchen scissors is important, please get one. Instead of opening spices pack and other sachet stuff with your teeth, you can use a scissors, it is safer. 

SIEVE
The sieve is used mainly for draining water from  vegetables and foods. It comes in different sizes, the big ones are used for draining water from parboiled rice, for removing beans coat from the beans when preparing moi-moi and the small ones are used for sieving coconut milk and fruit juice. 

BOWLS 
Bowls make your cooking organized especially when you are preparing a recipe that requires separation of ingredients such as salad. It is also used for washing. Bowls with cover can be used in storing food in the refrigerator.
